The Drakensburg region has between thirty-five and forty thousand Bushman artworks, the largest collection of pre-history era art in sub-Saharan Africa. The artworks were made by San artists using clay, burnt wood and ochre oxides to produce a range of colours.
Although the works are hard to date due to the materials used to create them, anthropological evidence points to the oldest specimens being in the region of forty thousand years old; in some cases possibly over one hundred thousand years old; with the most recent being between two and three thousand years old homepage.westmont.edu.
