A Grand Reopening with Orion Hotels & Resorts
Mont Aux Sources Drakensberg Resort, an iconic destination in South Africa, reopened on 28 November 2024 under the management of Orion Hotels & Resorts. Nestled at the foot of the incredible Amphitheatre in the Drakensberg, the resort has undergone extensive renovations to combine historical elegance with modern luxury.
The long-awaited opening came after the property was closed for 5 years due to economic and other factors. In the last year and a half, the hotel underwent extensive renovations and upgrades, preparing for the much anticipated opening. Orion Hotels & Resorts is super excited to be a part of the journey of Mont Aux Sources Drakensberg Resort. The property is owned by GI Holdings (Pty) Ltd.
What to expect
Guests can enjoy spacious chalets with private braai areas, pet-friendly accommodations, and indulgent wood-fire hot tubs. Activities include hiking trails, river tubing, horse riding, breathtaking mountain views, and access to the nearby Royal Natal National Park.
The many new and exciting activities are offered through the brand new activity centre, constructed out of an old farmhouse. The resort is proud to announce a new activity centre to provide in-house and outside guests new adventures and excursions.
The new Amphitheatre Restaurant was refurbished from the old conference centre, which is situated in the middle of the resort, which makes it the heart of the property. The international menu boasts cuisine from all around the world including Austrian Goulash, Italian Cassata and so much more. With uninterrupted views of the Amphitheatre mountain range, the restaurant is truly one of a kind.
And we are not slowing things down in 2025, as our guests can look forward to the development of two padel courts. Padel has taken over the world as an easy-to-play inclusive racket sport, and Mont Aux Sources is excited to bring the sport to the berg.
Historical Charm and Modern Elegance
Dating back to its founding by a French wine merchant, Mont Aux Sources has hosted royalty and notable figures, including Queen Elizabeth during her post-WWII tour. This rich legacy is preserved as the resort embraces a new era of hospitality.
With a rich history in a sacred setting, Mont Aux Sources Drakensberg Resort is excited to welcome guests on this new chapter of the hotel with re-imagined luxury and peaceful harmony, and for all guests to enjoy this wonderfully enchanting estate.
